To coincide with the launch of our new website and our new brand colours, we gave our logo a subtle upgrade. Our new trademark reaffirms our mission and acknowledges our roots.
Independent Currencies began as a consultancy focused exclusively on banknotes and other security document projects.
Although we’ve expanded into many other areas, we treat every project with the same meticulousness and craft as a banknote project. We see the banknote as the pinnacle of design – the creation of trust in a nation’s currency – it doesn’t get bigger than that!
Trust, craft, and the seamless blending of aesthetics and security features are the core elements of our ethos. This is reaffirmed in the next line: Decus Et Tutamen – Latin for ‘An Ornament And A Safeguard’. Originally inscribed along the side of the UK £1 coin, the phrase is a mission statement for our design: create a differentiated, protected and trustworthy product.
The logo itself is designed in the spirit of the US seal that appears on American currency. And just like a banknote, our logo’s fine details only reveal themselves on closer inspection.
What does the ‘I’ stand for? It is me? Independent? Idea? We like the visual double entendre – a line in a circle is a universal symbol for the power button on electronics.
We will also soon introduce some exciting brand colours: a warm, aged yellow, and a digital blue. They express our two feet in the world’s of printing and digital, and the combination of our playful approach with authoritative communication.
